How to live a Joyful and Healthy Life? The answer is entwined with the “Sea Cave”…
One of the Sea CavesJoin me as I travel the bumpy road with my magical dance with glass. I’m always chasing the elusive “joyful and healthy life” I cherish.
It was a custom order for an artist friend, Tammy Scott, who creates fabulous sculptural multi media collages.
She had a vision of a sculpture she wanted to do about a mythical underwater fantasy land. “Ohhhh, how exciting,” I thought!
She wanted me to create a glass bead that had an underwater sea cave feeling to it. She envisioned it to look as if you were leaving reality behind as you swam into the cave.
Now here’s the crazy part! Tammy picked out one of my hibiscus flowers I had created for her, an ocean life bead with a sea anemone, and a jellyfish bead. Then she asked if I could make her one bead with different parts from each of the beads that would look like her vision of the sea cave?

What a challenge! I was way past my comfort zone! I would be working with 3 completely different and major glass techniques that I wasn’t even sure would be compatible. But, you know what… I jumped at the chance!
About 10 minutes before I started torching the sea cave bead, I did a visualization. OK, think me crazy when I tell you what I said… but it works for me!
What I told myself were things like, “I was a genius in glass and all the knowledge and ability to make this bead existed inside me. And that the bead would flow easily, joyfully and beautifully from me.” I said this and more over and over to myself until I felt really relaxed and really good or what I call ‘in the zone’. I did 2 sea cave beads and they just flowed. I amazed myself and Tammy loved the one she picked.
