Today, I am going to finish my last major jewelry trend for 2011 Spring & Summer. It’s all about water! They call it Maritime but it’s really a focus around anything watery.
Think romantic, exotic travel down the Nile River, leisurely yachting trips and elegant style cruising (reminiscent of early 20th century) to faraway places like the South Seas.
The jewelry colors are varied from vivid, exotic colors of reds, bright yellow, luscious oranges, blues, greens, chocolate brown and khaki inspired by these far away places. Then there’s the nautical theme of red, white and indigo blue like sailor strips (look for stripes everywhere this season). This trend pretty much includes anything with a sea or ocean flavor.
Sailor strips, layers of chain and brocade detail… Yummy!
Hot materials to use are natural products like leather, wood, bones, feathers, coral and semiprecious stones.
Enameling on copper and brass is being seen in jewelry as well.
You’ll find thick broad bracelets, gold, serpentine coils, charms, coins, brass and copper chains and sea creatures like starfish, fish, turtles and nautical items like anchors. I’m feeling right at home here with my love of the ocean!
Other tidbits of hot items this season are chokers, stacking of bracelets and cuffs (wide bracelets) and the wonderful color of rose gold in metals.
I think fashions trends stimulate our creative juices to explore uncharted territories in jewelry designing! It’s wonderful to approach my glass lampwork beads and jewelry with a fresh and invigorating outlook!
We can pick and choose our favorite things to explore within the 2011 trends and still stay true to our beloved items we love to create!
