What are you focusing on?

I was checking my blog tonight and as I was sitting here, I starting watching my banner of flowers and other beads fade in and out. As I absent-mindlessly gazed at my beads, I started focusing on the quality of my glass techniques. I was analyzing, critiquing, trying to figure out how I can improve my beads.

Then a thought went through my mind…. “I do this all for art sake.” I guess you could call this an Ah Ha moment for me.

It’s crazy how things come together. I just finished watching the Hannah Montana Movie and there was a beautiful song she sang about how life is an upward climb but it has a great view. That we all have mountains we want to move and wanting to reach the end but what really matters is the joy in the climb.

My Ah Ha moment

My Ah Ha was that my mountain climb is becoming the best lampwork artist I can be. In the moment I was analyzing my beads, I was in my climb and it was exhilarating. I realized I strive for artistic perfection because that’s where I find my joy.

Now if I can just remember this insight when I’m struggling with a bead!

excerpt from the Miley Cyrus song “The Climb”

“There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I’m gonna to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb”
