This past week has been stressful and I had to do EFT tapping everyday to keep myself afloat! My son’s 13 year old cat stopped eating. We had to feed her with a syringe every few hours all last week. She died Tuesday, in my son’s arms. She was his constant companion and it felt like we all had lost a family member. We are now going through emotional loss and grief and trying to deal with these feelings.
What I wanted to share with you is a healing technique that I have been using to deal with this week’s stressful emotions. It is called Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT . It is a simple technique of tapping on meridian acupuncture points on one’s body, mostly on the face. It takes only a few minutes to feel relief from negative emotional memories of traumatic events in one’s life. I am doing it with my son to help us release the negative memories and substitute positive, loving memories of our sweet cat!
I learned about EFT about 3 years ago. My husband suggested me reading a book by Gary Craig that talked about getting rid of phobias. We had just finished moving ourselves to Texas from Augusta, Georgia. During the moving process, I had to struggle through my constant fear of high bridges. With my husband driving the U-Haul truck, I was left driving our van. There are 3 bridges from here to Augusta and I lived in fear of having to drive across them the whole trip. My heart raced, I hyperventilated to the point of seeing white spots and almost passing out whenever I had to drive across a high bridge! There is no rational reasoning to this fear. It existed beyond my ability to control it. I think everyone has something they have an irrational fear of and no matter how they try to overcome it, it persist.
A short time after reading the book, we went to South Padre and another high bridge. My sweet husband help me practice the EFT techniques that weekend and then drove me to the bridge. I tapped the EFT process a few more times as we sit on the side of the road and I stared at the bridge. My heart slowly stopped racing, I stopped hyperventilating and become calm. THEN I DROVE OVER THE BRIDGE! We got to the other side and I could not believe how relaxed and calm I felt! I tapped again and drove back over the bridge. My fear was gone for the first time in my life!
When I tell you I believe in EFT, it is from my profound experience of releasing this lifetime phobia that I feel is no less than a miracle in my life! I now can enjoy looking around at the water as we cross bridges, (I used to close my eyes) and I am always amazed how completely different I feel!
Are you wondering how does EFT work?
I’ll give you a quick idea. You think about a disturbing emotional event in your life…present or past. Then connect with how it makes you feel. Once you are emotional connected, there is a short phase you say as you tap on a acupressure point on your hand. Then you tap on other acupressure points on your face and body as you say how you feel about the event. By tapping on the points, you open blocks in your body where the negative emotions are being stored. It takes only a few minutes to perform and the results are amazing. It’s not a quick fix but a technique that you can use to work through to release energy blocks in your body that are creating pain, anxieties, fears and poor health for you.
My son and I are spending a few minutes everyday to release his sad memories and replace them with all the wonderful memories he had with his best friend. And I hope I am teaching him how to deal with his life’s stressful emotional experiences in a self empowering way that will benefit him his whole life.
I hope you check out EFT or other alternative healing techniques for yourself And PLEASE, if you do have some experiences with a technique, pleases share with others on my comments section!!!!!
I inserted some of my new glass art works to keep you feeling good! And, Thank you for letting me share with you my personal journey!
Dear Patsy: This is a wonderful explanation of EFT, which I will now look up. I do notknow if you are relgious , so forgive if I say God bless you son’s sweet cat. I believe we will be seeing all of our beloved pets in heaven. It gives me great solace.
I have been under a bit of stress too, and didn’t know how much until one of my step daughters gently touched my shoulders this past week, and both of us could feel the incredibly bunched up muscles !
I believe that EFT might be helpful for general stress, as well as phobias–what do you think?
I consider myself a positive person but I always look for new ways to help myself when i need to, and i am so happy when you share with us on your blog! Thank you! xox jean

Hi Jean! The information I have read about EFT is that it can be used for any stress in one’s life. I have found that after tapping, I am calmer, more relaxed and what I was worried about lessens or just goes away. I used it for my phobia 3 years ago and forgot about using it until we listened to a Tapping seminar 4 months ago. I use it everyday now and find it helps me deal with my stress. I’m also working at reprograming my negative beliefs. :)

So Sorry about Crystal – losing a member of the family is hard to deal with – glad yall have found a way. I think I will pass this on to my Sib bernie as she also has a fear of bridges + stress, and I confess I do to a bit especially the spi bridge! Amazing how well you have done with the fear(s).
Your beads are uplifting – keep it Up! mk
