Are you wondering: “What the heck is a ‘druk’??? Then I’ll let you know if I want one!”

Hi, It’s me and I’m going to share with you some of the different types of Czech beads available. …And I’m also sharing a sneak preview of Tutorial 103’s Sculptural Flowers.

‘Druks’ are Czech pressed glass beads that are smooth, and can also be referred to as ‘Rounds’. They’re made in a mold, which makes them very uniform in size. (A good thing when spacing in a necklace is important.)

The colors will vary greatly, because Czech druk glass beads are produced in small amounts. Be sure to purchase all you need to complete your jewelry project… Good to Know! I have the same problem when people are buying my lampwork glass beads! I always tell everyone to buy all the lampwork beads they need cause my next batch of that glass will probably be a different shade of color. In addition, I always mix my glass as I create, so it’s impossible to exactly match a color.

‘Fire-polished’ Czech glass beads are faceted beads that are tumbled over heat. (I’d like to see this process in person!) It adds luster and removes any sharp edges left by the mold.

Though a little less crisp and brilliant than Swarovski crystals, they have a great price, while still being a quality bead.

Compared with India’s seed beads, Czech glass ‘Seed beads’ are more uniform in size and shape. Beautiful finishes like silver-lined, iridescent rainbow, AB or aurora borealis, and matte can be found in an endless array of colors. They are similar to Swarovski beads and are very popular with weavers.

I’m working on Tutorial 103 (Sculptural 3 & 4 petal flowers) OMG! How do I squash what I know into a tutorial? I’ve been writing about color schemes, too, and how to use them. Good Grief, I could write a book! I think you are going to Love this tutorial! I was almost finished but decided to add another flower version that uses my enamel powder techniques.

The tiny round lampwork beads, with flowers on them, is taught in my 1st tutorial, Lampworking 101. You’ll need to get that tutorial to know how to do those beads. They really look fabulous with the sculptural flowers. See, there is a reason why I teach the way I do. It’s all about building upon learned techniques!

Are ya’ll looking forward to playing around with Tutorial 103?
